Sqwires

Lyndsay’s Thoughts:
I try to hang out in Soulard as much as possible (I hope you people can detect sarcasm through text. Yeah, I said YOU people!) and luckily, that’s Sqwires location!! Rustic, vintage, charming- Tony actually looked into Sqwires as a reception location. And this place has everything: a warm fireplace, lots of awkward looking dates that may as well be a walk of shame AND a ghost player non-player piano. Ya know, it’s that thing where you think there’s a player piano, but it’s actually just a really skinny man playing the piano that you didn’t realize was there and then you ask really loudly if someone is playing the piano & almost touch him, by accident…

Sqwires offers a weekly rotating brunch menu, serving many local farmer and independent store goods. I’ve eaten here once before and COULD NOT WAIT to try the awesome Bloody bar. Their Bloody is bottle aged triple distilled polish potato vodka with a housemade bloody mary mix and is served in a carafe. Good news, lushes, the carafe is about three and half glasses of that sweet, sweet nectar. So, pump and dump if you’re a breastfeeding mother.

The Bloody bar itself is, how do you say? Ah, yes. Re-donky kong. I came nowhere close to adding every ingredient on the bar, but let me just spew out the giant list of ingredients I did add. Inhale and….worcestershire, wasabi, peppercini, 314 hot sauce, olive juice, pepper, cheese stuffed olives, reg olives, celery salt, lemon, lime, celery stalk, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, hamburger picke and pickeled green been, tomato and carrot…exhale. The pickled veggies were a slow, SUPER spicy burn and it was awesome. All around delicious. I’ll for sure be returning for everything! Except the veggie chorizo, because they add raisins RAISINS . Blegh.

Samantha’s Thoughts:
Every once in a while I like to enjoy a bloody mary piano side with a rustic backdrop, thankfully at Sqwires my wish is their command because you can expect just that at this lavish brunch spot located in the heart of Lafayette Square (or as Lyndsay call it, Soulard).

Sqwires falls under the category of Bloody Mary bar, you are served an extra large portion of house-made bloody mix in a perfectly rustic carafe with a cork and a cup of ice. This carafe hold about three-four rocks glasses of bloody, a selling point for many morning alcoholics. From there you make your way to the impressive bar of pickled vegetables, lemons, limes, hot sauces, wasabi, horseradish, bacon, sausage, cheese, essentially anything you would ever want, or not, in your bloody mary.

The pros:
Huge selection of tasty garnishes as well as a large drink portion.

The cons:
The bloody mary was a tad too thick and overwhelming for my taste.

As far as the food is concerned it was tasty but nothing unforgettable. Def a good spot to hit up especially if you have a large group of peeps.

Tip the piano player.
